Bunon 2030: Key Interventions, Insights, & Way Forward for Bangladesh’s RMG Sector

LightCastle Partners, in collaboration with Policy Exchange Bangladesh, has implemented Bunon 2030 as part of the Oporajita initiative by the H&M Foundation and The Asia Foundation. Over two years, this initiative engaged over 600 stakeholders, including policymakers, industry leaders, and women garment workers, to tackle the critical challenges shaping the future of Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sector.

Through in-depth research, policy briefs, and dialogues, the initiative explored pivotal themes such as automation, decarbonization, circularity, and workforce wellbeing. The findings emphasize actionable strategies to prepare for global shifts like the EU Green Deal, address workforce transitions amid automation, and strengthen the sector’s global competitiveness as Bangladesh approaches its LDC graduation in 2026.

Key outcomes include the importance of equipping women garment workers with future-ready skills, enabling sustainable practices like textile waste recycling, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to build resilience in the apparel value chain. Bunon 2030 stands as a collaborative effort to align the RMG sector with evolving global demands while addressing local workforce and environmental priorities.
