FoodTechBangladesh is a five-year program (September 2022–August 2027) designed to boost Bangladesh’s aquaculture sector. The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh co-finances the initiative, which is implemented by Larive International and LightCastle Partners. Dutch and Bangladeshi private partners are jointly investing €6 million. This effort focuses on increasing collaboration, improving sustainability, and enhancing competitiveness in the sector.
The program includes establishing a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Tarakanda, Mymensingh. Dutch experts designed the CoE and equipped it with advanced Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) technologies. It will serve as a hub for modern farming techniques. The CoE will host training sessions and demonstration visits to teach 200 local farmers sustainable practices. These efforts aim to improve productivity and meet higher industry standards.
On December 9th, FishTech Ltd. and program partners organized a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off CoE construction. Representatives from consortium members, including LightCastle Partners, FishTech Ltd., and De Heus Animal Nutrition, explained their roles in the program during presentations.
Key stakeholders also addressed the audience. Ms. Sara Van Hoeve, First Secretary at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, praised Bangladesh’s aquaculture potential. She stressed the need to boost productivity, enhance food safety, and ensure sustainability.
Mr. Nazim Uddin, District Fisheries Officer of Mymensingh, highlighted the transformative role of technology. He remarked, “The CoE in Mymensingh will help scale these innovations across the country.”
Looking ahead, the program plans to host farmer visits at the CoE and provide training to over 200 farmers. These initiatives will transfer knowledge, improve farming practices, and increase productivity. FoodTechBangladesh remains committed to fostering innovation and sustainability in Bangladesh’s aquaculture sector.
