Bangladesh Startup Investments Report 2024 – H1: Pioneering With Resilience

In the face of persistent economic disparities such as rising inflation and declining forex reserves, the GDP per capita of Bangladesh has surpassed the South Asian average. The nation is on track to become a trillion-dollar economy by 2030, indicating a positive outlook for local market consumption and investment. In H’1 2024, Bangladeshi startups raised USD 19 Mn across 22 deals, a 57% decline from H’1 2023.

Despite the global funding slowdown, local investments increased twofold quarter-over-quarter, indicating growing investor confidence. Notably, global investors dominated the investment scene, accounting for 59% of total investments during H’1 2024. Local investors, however, continued their active participation, showcasing an impressive 2.4x increase from Q’1 to Q’2.

  • Global venture funding totaled USD 147 Bn in H’1 2024, with AI startups being the focal point of investment, pooling in 24% of total investments. 
  • In H’1 2024, Bangladeshi startups raised USD 19 Mn across 22 deals, reflecting a 57% decrease from H’1 2023. 
  • Early-stage investments in Bangladesh amounted to USD 5 million, making up 24% of total funding in H1 2024. Late-stage investments accounted for the remaining 76%, indicating a growing preference for mature startups among investors.
  • Global investors have taken the forefront in the investment landscape, contributing 59% of total investments in H’1 2024, amounting to USD 11 Mn. 
  • Climate & Energy sector emerged as a significant focus, raising USD 8 Mn and representing 41% of total investments in H’1 2024.
