Bijon Islam, CEO and Co-founder of LightCastle Partners, presented at the United Nations Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Week 2024 (UN GeoNow 2024) in Deqing, China. His session, “Financing MSMEs for Sustainable Development: Building the Data-to-Business Growth Bridge,” focused on addressing financing challenges for MSMEs through data-driven solutions.
Drawing on Bangladesh’s experience, where over 8 million CMSMEs contribute 25% to GDP, the presentation outlined key structural barriers such as limited access to finance, insufficient creditworthiness data, and regulatory hurdles. Bijon highlighted the potential of interoperable digital ecosystems to bridge these gaps, proposing open-access databases and collaborative frameworks to streamline credit assessments and reduce documentation requirements. Such systems can expand financial inclusion, particularly for women-led enterprises.
