Despite women accounting for 21% of STEM graduates in Bangladesh, fewer than 1% transition into STEM careers, and only 8.9% reach leadership positions. This report examines the structural, institutional, and cultural factors driving this persistent “leaky pipeline” across education, recruitment, career progression, and leadership pathways.
Drawing on a mixed-methods research approach—including surveys, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs)—the study analyses gender inclusivity in Bangladesh’s STEM ecosystem through an HR lens. It identifies critical gaps in pre-recruitment preparedness, gender-responsive hiring practices, workplace support systems, and leadership development frameworks.
By benchmarking international HR best practices against local realities, the report proposes context-specific, actionable HR frameworks to strengthen women’s participation and retention in STEM. The findings offer practical guidance for employers, policymakers, academic institutions, and development partners seeking to build inclusive, future-ready STEM workforces in Bangladesh.
