At the convening, discussions centered on how wealth is being redefined across generations. Bijon Islam highlighted that inherited wealth is increasingly viewed as a responsibility rather than entitlement, with a growing focus on preserving and compounding value over the long term. In this context, he noted that the commonly cited “third-generation problem” is often misunderstood, with challenges more likely to arise when the second generation is unable to carry forward the founder’s vision and ethos.
Structure is critical to sustaining both wealth and impact. Family offices are moving toward more disciplined approaches, adopting clear governance frameworks, defined investment theses, and formal decision-making mechanisms such as family councils.
These themes also carried into a high-level panel on impact-linked finance attended by Bijon Islam.
