Catalyzing Climate Solutions: A Workshop on Finance Pathways for Impact Enterprises

On February 17th, B-Briddhi  hosted an interactive workshop on “Climate Finance – Opportunities and Way Forward for Impact Enterprises in Bangladesh” at Lakeshore Hotel, Dhaka.

The session, led by Naomi Rosenthal and Lars Osterwalder, experts in climate and carbon finance provided a deep dive into climate finance opportunities, key market trends, and practical tools for impact enterprises to integrate climate action into their business models. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises explored different financing pathways, and learned from real-world case studies on emissions tracking and carbon markets.

Key Takeaways from the Climate Finance Workshop:

Bangladesh’s Climate Commitments & Finance Needs

  • Bangladesh is the 7th most climate-vulnerable country globally, with projections indicating 30% of agricultural land loss by 2050.
  • The country has pledged a 6.73% unconditional emissions reduction by 2030, with a 15.12% target contingent on external financing.
  • Achieving these goals requires an estimated USD 176 Bn in climate finance over the next decade, covering renewable energy, energy efficiency, transport, and agriculture.

Climate Financing pathways for IEs include:

  • Grant & Concessional Finance – Direct funding where impact is pre-agreed
  • Carbon Markets – Bangladesh has over 50 million carbon credits but low utilisation (~15% retirement rate).
  • Value Chain Climate Action – Private sector-led sustainability initiatives to reduce emissions in key sectors.

The workshop featured a special presentation by Shuvasish Bhowmick, Country Manager of ATEC, highlighting how the company is driving innovation in clean cooking and real-time impact measurement. As a Melbourne-based leader in cookstove and carbon markets, ATEC has developed patented IoT technology that seamlessly connects its products to international carbon markets, enabling them to generate carbon credits efficiently.
