On March 9, 2026, FoodTechBangladesh hosted an online training session titled ‘Farmers Training on Advanced Management Practice of All-Male Scampi (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) at Hatchery and Culture Pond.’ The webinar brought together around 130 farmers and aquaculture practitioners from across Bangladesh to strengthen technical knowledge on modern prawn hatchery and pond management practices.
The training highlighted the Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS)-based improved culture management of all-male giant freshwater prawn (Golda). The session aimed to equip farmers with practical knowledge to enhance survival rates and improve productivity. While also increasing profitability through technology-driven aquaculture practices.
To provide technical insights, industry experts shared practical field experience. Md. Shahriar Kabir, Hatchery Expert at Fishtech Golda Hatchery, discussed the production of all-male giant freshwater prawn post-larvae (PL) using Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) technology. He demonstrated how RAS operates through a closed-loop water system. With filtration, aeration, and biological treatment maintaining optimal water quality and biosecurity for larval production.
Meanwhile, Md. Mahbub Alam, Aquaculturist and Technical Expert at Fishtech (BD) Limited, focused on advanced pond management practices for culturing all-male giant freshwater prawn. He highlighted that male prawns grow faster and more uniformly, reducing cannibalism and improving harvest consistency. His session covered pond preparation, stocking strategies, feeding management, water-quality monitoring, and partial-harvesting techniques to maximize productivity.
The FoodTechBangladesh hosted training session concluded with an interactive live Q&A. During which farmers engaged directly with the experts to discuss practical challenges in hatchery operations, pond management, and water quality control.
Looking ahead, FoodTechBangladesh plans to continue organizing similar knowledge-sharing sessions. In order to expand farmer capacity and encourage the adoption of innovative aquaculture practices. Through sustained training and technical support, the programme aims to contribute to a more resilient aquaculture sector. And support the long-term growth of Bangladesh’s Blue Economy.
