In Bangladesh, SMEs face significant financial challenges due to high collateral requirements, elevated interest rates, and complex loan procedures. Limited financial literacy among SME owners hampers their ability to meet formal financing requirements, while inadequate credit information and regulatory barriers increase perceived risks for lenders.
Additionally, limited awareness of available financial products, underdeveloped alternative financing options, and high non-performing loan ratios lead to stricter lending practices. Gender disparities also restrict female entrepreneurs’ access to finance, further complicating the financial landscape for SMEs. These factors collectively hinder SME growth and sustainability in the country.
