LightCastle Partners Joins the Bangladesh’s Just Transition Academy

LightCastle Partners recently participated in the two-day Just Transition Academy. The event was co-hosted by the International Labour Organization (ILO), Laudes Foundation, United Nations, FAO, and the Thomson Reuters Foundation. It aimed to address the urgent need for equitable and sustainable development in climate-vulnerable countries.

The Academy brought together policymakers, development agencies, and private sector leaders. The goal was to align strategies for a just transition.

It served as a critical platform for discussing how countries like Bangladesh can shift towards low-carbon, sustainable economies. Importantly, it emphasized keeping workers’ interests at the center of that shift.

Panel discussions and breakout sessions covered several topics. These included regulatory frameworks, public-private collaboration, and mobilizing green finance.

LightCastle presented findings from a key research initiative on green employment opportunities in Bangladesh. This work was supported by Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada. The research outlines strategic pathways for building a green-skilled workforce. It also explores how to promote inclusive growth in climate-vulnerable regions and sectors.

In addition, Zahedul Amin, Co-founder and Director at LightCastle Partners, co-facilitated a breakout session. He was joined by Joy Zhang from the Thomson Reuters Foundation. The session focused on “Financing Just Transition.”

They discussed barriers to scaling alternative and innovative financing mechanisms. Topics included concessional and grant financing, carbon markets, green bonds, and climate-aligned value chains. They also explored blended finance tools that could unlock investment in green infrastructure and sustainable enterprises.

As Bangladesh moves toward becoming more industrialized, the need for robust climate financing will grow. This need spans sectors such as ready-made garments (RMG), textiles, agriculture, aquaculture, and SMEs. It also includes circular economy models.

The event concluded with a strong call to action. Stakeholders emphasized cross-sector collaboration and timely policy reforms to enable a fair and inclusive transition.
