LightCastle Partners and Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture jointly organized a workshop on Ag-Digitization titled Agriculture: Next Digital Frontier on December 19, 2019, at Lakeshore Hotel, Gulshan, Dhaka.
Robert Berlin, head of agriservices, digital delivery and country programmes at the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture, attended the event as the chief guest. Representatives from the private sector, including e-commerce, agro-input, agro processing and large conglomerates, as well as the development sector were participated in the discussion and spoke about ways to consolidate fragmented digital initiatives in agriculture in Bangladesh. The experts strongly suggested that establishing a coherent digital strategy in agro-business models as well as widespread collaboration between agri-technology companies, e-commerce, and input-output companies and active governance will be crucial in ensuring a winning model for the ecosystem and achieve commercial viability.
Furthermore, data digitalization was earmarked to be a key component for the future, as it provides greater financial inclusion, as well as assist Financial institutes to leverage procurement data and create targeted products and offerings for the farmers and other stakeholders in the value chain.LightCastle and the Syngenta Foundation will carry forward the joint initiative to promote agriculture data digitalization in Bangladesh. A white paper is expected to be published in 2020 for the greater interest of Bangladesh’s agriculture.
