LightCastle Partners has commenced an engagement with TFO Canada to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the Canadian and Bangladeshi markets and their key stakeholders. This work is being carried out under the Trade for Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Growth (TRISEG) initiative. The engagement aims to strengthen the export readiness and international competitiveness of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Bangladesh. The study will focus on the jute diversified product sector and will run from February to August 2026.
Through this engagement, LightCastle Partners will conduct an evidence-based assessment of both demand-side conditions in Canada and supply-side dynamics in Bangladesh. The analysis will examine market access requirements, compliance standards, and key competitiveness factors. These factors affect Bangladeshi SMEs seeking to enter or expand in international markets. The findings will support targeted interventions to improve export readiness, strengthen institutional capacity, and enhance SME participation in global value chains.
The research will follow a structured, multi-phase methodology. It will combine secondary research, stakeholder mapping, and primary data collection. LightCastle Partners will conduct extensive desk research alongside key informant interviews (KIIs), in-depth interviews (IDIs), and focus group discussions (FGDs). These will involve SMEs, trade support institutions, financial institutions, policymakers, and sector experts. This participatory approach will ensure the study captures ecosystem-wide insights across policy, institutional, and enterprise levels.
A key component of the study is the assessment of SME export readiness across three categories: new exporters, intermittent exporters, and active exporters. The analysis will examine differences in capabilities, market knowledge, compliance readiness, digital adoption, and access to finance. It will identify critical barriers that prevent SMEs from progressing to higher levels of export participation. Parallel assessments of trade support institutions will highlight service gaps and opportunities for targeted capacity-building.
The study will also incorporate cross-cutting themes. These include gender equality and social inclusion, environmental sustainability and climate resilience, digitalization, and access to finance. These perspectives will inform practical recommendations to strengthen the export ecosystem. They will also ensure SME growth remains inclusive and sustainable.
As part of the engagement, LightCastle Partners will deliver a comprehensive market analysis report. This report will outline sectoral insights, institutional capacity assessments, and policy recommendations. The final outputs will include an implementation-oriented roadmap. This roadmap will support trade support institutions and development partners in enhancing SME competitiveness and expanding participation in international markets.
Through this collaboration with TFO Canada, the partnership aims to generate actionable insights. These insights will strengthen Bangladesh’s SME export ecosystem and support the integration of local enterprises into global trade opportunities.
