On 21st October 2024, LightCastle Partners, in close collaboration with The Policy Exchange Bangladesh, co-hosted the fourth and final dialogue event on Automation, bringing together industry leaders, innovators, development partners, academicians, and government stakeholders to address the critical challenges regarding automation integration in the apparel industry of Bangladesh.
The keynote presentation, titled ‘Future-Proofing RMG: Tackling Automation for Sustainable Growth & Worker Wellbeing’, was delivered by Zahedul Amin, Co-founder & Director, LightCastle Partners. He shed light on the complexities of integrating automation into the RMG value chain, emphasizing the need for workforce upskilling, particularly for women, and the importance of securing access to finance to drive this transformation.
The event was attended by esteemed stakeholders including Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro Vice Chancellor of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT), Mohsina Yasmin, Former Executive Member of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Ainee Islam, Director, Program Development of The Asia Foundation, Habibullah N. Karim, Founder & CEO of Technohaven Company Ltd, and Shams Zaman, Country Managing Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Bangladesh among others. Lastly, the event concluded with the closing remarks by Shams Mahmud, Director of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), and Managing Director of Shasha Denims.
The automation dialogue event was held as part of the Bunon 2030 initiative under the Oporajita – Future of Work for Women Garment Workers project, supported by The Asia Foundation and funded by the H&M Foundation.
