As part of its commitment to modernizing aquaculture practices in Bangladesh, the FoodTechBangladesh (FTB) program recently conducted a hands-on training session at the Center of Excellence (CoE) in Khulna, developed in partnership with Gemini Seafood. The session brought together local aquaculture farmers to explore advanced farming systems, including Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), optimized feeding strategies, and disease management techniques.
A major highlight of the session was the introduction of the Farmers’ App, a digital platform designed to help aquaculture farmers track and manage their pond activities more effectively, from land preparation to harvest. The app is being tailored for local use and rolled out by LightCastle Partners under the FTB program.
Lotifa Chowdhury, from LightCastle Partners, led a dedicated segment of the training focused on familiarizing farmers with the new app. She provided a step-by-step walkthrough of its key features, demonstrating how the tool supports farmers in recording feed usage, monitoring fish health, and maintaining daily logs.
“This app empowers farmers with actionable data. It helps transform traditional practices into data-driven decisions ultimately improving efficiency and yields,” shared Lotifa during the session.
The training marks a significant step in the app’s rollout, which aims to reach 1,000 farmers across Bangladesh by 2025. FishTech and Gemini Seafood, private sector partners of the FTB consortium, will continue to support on-ground adoption and engagement through their extensive networks.
