Bijon Islam, CEO and Co-founder of LightCastle Partners, recently joined the IFC’s Inclusive Leadership for Company Sustainability program in Jakarta.
The 3.5-day Regional Asia Pacific Training of Trainers convened professionals from across South Asia to examine ways to expand women’s participation in board and executive roles and to strengthen pathways for inclusive leadership.
In Bangladesh, women are increasingly contributing across sectors and industries, yet their presence in senior decision-making roles remains limited. Building stronger pathways for women to progress from mid-level to leadership positions is therefore essential for strengthening governance, driving innovation, and supporting sustainable economic growth.
Through structured discussions and peer learning, participants exchanged experiences and explored practical approaches that go beyond quota-based representation, with a focus on enabling women to assume leadership roles in companies, markets, and policymaking.
The Bangladesh delegation included Kashfia Sharmeen and Dr. Melita Mehjabeen, alongside Bijon Islam, while Milabh Shrestha and Hemanth Angdembay joined from Nepal. Discussions focused on moving beyond quota-based representation toward practical solutions that enable women to take on leadership roles in companies, markets, and policymaking.
The initiative was supported by the Government of Luxembourg (Ministry of Finance), SECO Economic Cooperation and Development, and the European Union in Nepal.
