On January 28, 2026, FoodTechBangladesh hosted a high-impact online training session titled Farmers Training on IPRS & Fish Health. The session brought together nearly 85 local farmers from across Bangladesh. Importantly, it marked another milestone in the program’s goal to train over 1,000 farmers nationwide through digital platforms.
The training focused on the In-Pond Raceway System (IPRS), a modern aquaculture technology that enables high-density fish production without compromising water quality. Moreover, IPRS supports ecological balance, making it well suited for sustainable aquaculture. Farmers joined the session from diverse regions, including coastal areas such as Bagerhat and Cox’s Bazar, northern districts like Rajshahi and Rangpur, and industrial hubs including Narayanganj and Dhaka.
To deepen practical understanding, industry experts shared hands-on insights into IPRS implementation. Md. Ariful Islam, Senior Executive (R&D) at Fishtech Bangladesh Limited, discussed key water-quality parameters such as dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, and ammonia. He clearly explained how these factors influence fish health, immunity, growth, and survival. In addition, he outlined practical solutions, including the use of probiotics, liming, and zeolite, to maintain water balance and prevent ammonia toxicity.
Meanwhile, Syed Ferdous Murad, CEO of Ferdous Trading, focused on day-to-day IPRS operations and effective pond management. He covered critical areas such as aeration safety, solid waste removal, feeding strategies, and pond-scale bio-remediation. Notably, he emphasized that consistent management and partial harvesting can triple production while reducing water use by up to 80%.
As a result, the session equipped farmers with practical tools to improve fish health and optimize yields. Furthermore, it reinforced the importance of sustainable practices in Bangladesh’s aquaculture sector. The training concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where farmers directly engaged with the experts to address technical challenges and adoption concerns.
Building on this momentum, the FoodTechBangladesh program has committed to hosting follow-up sessions in the coming months. Through these efforts, the initiative aims to support continuous learning and strengthen Bangladesh’s growing Blue Economy. The session was hosted by Faiza Tahiya, Business Analyst at LightCastle Partners.
FoodTechBangladesh is a six-year public-private partnership (PPP) co-funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh. Co-implemented by Larive International and LightCastle Partners, the programme aims to enhance Bangladesh’s aquaculture sector through sustainable and scalable interventions. FTB focuses on enhancing technical performance, minimizing post-harvest losses, and linking fish farmers to end markets. Key initiatives include establishing Centres of Excellence in Khulna, Mymensingh, Patuakhali, and Cox’s Bazar, providing training to over 1,800 farmers, and conducting research on innovative aquaculture practices.
