LightCastle Partners and Meta Host Small Business Growth Academy Workshop for Bangladesh’s SMEs

For Bangladesh’s small and medium enterprises, the digital economy is no longer a future opportunity. It is already reshaping how businesses find customers, build brands, communicate, and compete.

Yet an important gap remains: being digitally present does not necessarily mean being digitally capable.

A business may have a Facebook page, sell through WhatsApp, or advertise on Instagram, but the ability to strategically use these platforms—and increasingly, AI—to drive measurable business outcomes requires a different set of capabilities.

The strong response to the Small Business Growth Academy (SBGA) 2026, supported by Meta and implemented by LightCastle Partners, offers an early indication of both the demand for these capabilities and the diversity of Bangladesh’s emerging digital entrepreneurs.

The first cohort of SBGA received 300+ applications, with 150+ SMEs participating in the inaugural in-person workshop in Dhaka on August 31, 2026.

The workshop was designed around a simple premise: technology creates value only when businesses know how to apply it.

Across the full-day training, entrepreneurs explored lead generation across Meta technologies, AI-generated creative, prompt engineering, Reels, Advantage+ campaigns, advertising best practices, WhatsApp Business, international sales, and AI-powered workflows.

The emphasis was therefore not simply on what tools are available, but on how entrepreneurs can integrate them into their existing business processes to solve real challenges.

As AI lowers the barriers to content creation, customer engagement, and productivity, the competitive advantage will increasingly shift from access to technology toward the ability to use it effectively.

The Emerging AI Capability Gap

For SMEs, AI has the potential to reduce the time and resources required for activities ranging from marketing and content creation to customer communication and workflow management.

But adoption does not happen automatically.

Entrepreneurs need practical knowledge to identify relevant use cases, develop effective prompts, evaluate AI-generated outputs, and integrate these tools without losing the human understanding of their customers and markets.

Bringing entrepreneurs from different sectors into the same room creates opportunities to exchange experiences, challenges, and practical approaches to digital growth. Such communities can help businesses learn not only from trainers, but from one another.

For LightCastle Partners, this aligns with a broader commitment to strengthening entrepreneurship through knowledge, networks, and access to opportunity.

As Bijon Islam, CEO of LightCastle Partners, noted:

“At LightCastle Partners, we see every day how investing in grassroots entrepreneurship transforms communities and drives inclusive economic progress.”

What Comes Next?

The first cohort provides an encouraging signal: Bangladesh’s entrepreneurs are actively looking to build the capabilities required to compete in an increasingly digital economy.

The next challenge is to translate this interest into sustained adoption.

The Small Business Growth Academy seeks to contribute to that journey by making digital and AI-enabled tools more accessible, practical, and relevant to local businesses.

Ultimately, the goal is not simply to help SMEs go digital; It is to help them become more productive, competitive, and growth-oriented businesses in a digital economy.
