SheSTEM Hosts Role Model Talks and Policy Seminar on Women in STEM at North South University

On 23 September 2026, SheSTEM, in collaboration with the IEEE NSU Student Branch Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group, hosted role model talks and a policy seminar at North South University. The event brought together students, academics, and professionals to explore career pathways for women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and discuss measures to build more inclusive workplaces.

The role model talks featured Nabeela Enayet Prova, General Manager, Business Division at Grameenphone, and Munuree Mozahed, People Delivery Specialist at Ericsson. Drawing on their professional experiences, the speakers discussed navigating the transition from a first job to leadership roles. They also addressed workplace bias, self-doubt, and the skills and confidence required to progress in technical fields.

The talks were followed by a panel discussion titled “STEM Without Barriers: Designing Inclusive Investments,” moderated by Reeshoon Sayera, Lecturer and Faculty Advisor of the IEEE NSU Student Branch WIE Affinity Group. The panel featured Dr. Sumaiya Tabassum Nimi, Assistant Professor, ECE, NSU; Dr. Fariah Mahzabeen, Associate Professor, ECE, NSU; Nabeela Enayet Prova; Munuree Mozahed; Umme Mahfuza Haque, Superintending Engineer, Bangladesh Water Development Board; and Abdullah Al Fahim, Consultant, a2i, ICT Division.

Moving beyond individual career experiences, the panel examined the institutional changes needed to support women’s participation and progression in STEM. Discussions highlighted meaningful mentorship, policies that help retain women in the workforce, and the responsibilities of academic and industry leaders in creating opportunities for the next generation.

The event reinforced the importance of representation alongside practical support. By connecting female students with professionals and engaging stakeholders in policy dialogue, the session highlighted how visible role models, inclusive institutions, and sustained mentorship can help women pursue and build careers in STEM.

SheSTEM is supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bangladesh, a2i – Aspire to Innovate, 10 Minute School, LightCastle Partners, Policy Exchange Bangladesh, and DevLearn Consultancy.
