Fluctuations in the production of Day-Old Chicks (DOC)—ranging from periods of overproduction to sudden shortages—remain a major challenge in Bangladesh’s poultry supply chain. This inconsistency leads to market volatility, impacting prices and threatening the sustainability of small-scale hatcheries.
Beyond overproduction, hatchery operations face additional hurdles such as poor hatching egg quality, inadequate storage and incubation conditions, transportation issues, challenges in managing fertility, and the lack of modern incubation equipment. These issues disproportionately impact small and medium-scale poultry farmers, who often pay higher prices for DOCs at volatile rates—directly affecting their profitability.
To address these gaps, the PoultryTechBangladesh initiative designed a comprehensive training program focused on hatchery practices. The program includes both theoretical and hands-on components covering hatchery management, incubation technologies, egg storage, and hatchery data management.
Good hatchery outcomes depend on the effective use of the right tools—equipment, hatching eggs, hygiene chemicals—combined with sound procedures and skilled personnel. Such insights were shared during a 3-day workshop on “Hatchery Management”, held from 16th–18th June 2025 in Gulshan, Dhaka, as part of the PoultryTechBangladesh project.
The sessions were conducted by Mr. Gerd de Lange, Senior Poultry Specialist, and Ms. Lotte Hebbink, Incubation Specialist, both from Royal Pas Reform. The event was jointly organized by Larive International, LightCastle Partners, and Axon Limited, with support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
On day 1, the event kicked off with a keynote on the PoultryTechBangladesh project by Ms. Naziba Ali, Business Analyst at LightCastle Partners. Following that, Mr. Osman Haruni, Senior Policy Advisor at the Dutch Embassy in Bangladesh and Mr. Mostafa Kamal, Secretary, Bangladesh Poultry industries Central Council (BPICC) delivered the opening remarks highlighting the continued support of Dutch companies in fostering a sustainable poultry sector in Bangladesh. Mr. Zahidul Islam, Managing Director of Axon appreciated the initiative and hoped for the continuation of such capacity building initiatives.
The workshop covered a range of topics across three days:
The workshop brought together around 25 professionals from leading poultry companies, including Nourish Poultry & Hatchery, ACI Godrej Agrovet, Provita Group, Planet Agro, Kazi Farms, Alal Group, Aman Poultry & Hatchery, and Hendrix Genetics, among others.

To meet growing domestic demand, Bangladesh’s poultry sector must significantly boost productivity by adopting advanced, knowledge-intensive production techniques.
PoultryTechBangladesh is a public-private partnership program aimed at enhancing the capacity and sustainability of Bangladesh’s poultry sector. The initiative is co-ordinated by Larive International and LightCastle Partners, with funding support from the Government of the Netherlands.
