On April 30 and May 1, 2026, the CBI Home Textile Project, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and LightCastle Partners, organised a two-day workshop on “Sustainable Design Introduction”, bringing together home textile manufacturers, exporters, and industry stakeholders to explore the future of sustainable and responsible textile production in Bangladesh.
The workshop aimed to equip businesses with the knowledge and tools required to design products that balance People, Planet, and Profit while adapting to the rapidly evolving sustainability expectations of the European market. With sustainability regulations under the European Green Deal reshaping global trade dynamics, the sessions focused on helping Bangladeshi enterprises strengthen their competitiveness through responsible production and compliance readiness.

Participants gained practical insights into emerging European Union regulations, including the Digital Product Passport (DPP), anti-greenwashing directives, and forced labour compliance requirements. Discussions also covered sustainable production practices, buyer expectations, and market access requirements for textile exporters seeking to strengthen their presence in international markets.
In addition, the sustainable design workshop introduced participants to globally recognised certifications and standards such as OEKO-TEX 100, Global Recycled Standard (GRS), BSCI, Sedex/SMETA, and WFTO, highlighting their growing importance in ensuring traceability, transparency, and ethical production across textile value chains.
The sessions further explored innovative approaches to sustainable manufacturing, including wastewater treatment solutions, natural dyeing techniques, recycled yarn production, and circular design strategies. Emphasis was placed on the role of chemical safety, resource efficiency, and responsible sourcing in building resilient and future-ready home textile businesses.

Through technical assistance, coaching, and market linkage support, the CBI Home Textile Project continues to support SMEs in piloting sustainable solutions and driving positive environmental and social impact within Bangladesh’s home textile sector. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to enabling local businesses to align with global sustainability standards while unlocking new opportunities in international markets.
