LightCastle Partners Joins Discussion on the Future of Venture Capital in Bangladesh

LightCastle Partners recently participated in an engaging discussion on “Venture Capital in Bangladesh and Its Future Journey,” organized by BD Venture Limited on 19 October 2025 at The Westin Dhaka. 

The event brought together policymakers, central bankers, financiers, and startup leaders to explore how Bangladesh can transition from traditional financing toward a sustainable, innovation-driven venture capital ecosystem.

Israk Faruquee, Business Analyst at LightCastle Partners, delivered a keynote presentation on “Bangladesh Startup Ecosystem Outlook.” In his address, he shared data-driven insights on the country’s evolving startup landscape, highlighting investment trends of 2025 as well as developments over the past decade, growing sectoral diversification, and recent policy initiatives such as the Startup Finance Circular, Share Swap Mechanism, and Fund of Funds. He also emphasized the need to strengthen investor confidence by clarifying frameworks around equity participation, exit readiness, and capital repatriation, key steps toward attracting long-term, patient capital.

The session featured remarks from several notable speakers, including Mamun Rashid, Chairman of BD Venture and noted economist, who underscored the importance of building an entrepreneurial mindset in Bangladesh similar to India’s thriving startup ecosystem. Husne Ara Shikha, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank, shared that the central bank is forming a new venture capital company with 52 commercial banks to bridge entrepreneurs and financiers, while Mashrur Arefin, Chairman of the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh (ABB), called for greater collaboration between banks and international development partners to accelerate venture financing. 

The discussion concluded with a shared commitment among policymakers, financial institutions, and ecosystem enablers to create an enabling environment for startups to scale and contribute to Bangladesh’s next growth frontier.
