FoodTechBangladesh Hosts Two-Day On-site Farmer Training on All-Male Golda Farming and Disease Management at Patuakhali

On 13th and 14th July 2026, FoodTechBangladesh hosted a two-day on-site farmer training programme on All-Male Golda Farming and Disease Management at the FishTech Golda Hatchery in Patuakhali. FishTech (BD) Limited organized the training and brought together around 78 participants, including farmers, dealers, and aquaculture entrepreneurs from the Barishal region. As a result, the strong turnout reflected growing interest in advanced freshwater prawn farming practices.

The first day welcomed 38 participants, while the second day drew 40 participants. Moreover, both sessions received enthusiastic participation. The programme introduced participants to all-male giant freshwater prawn (Golda) culture. This innovative production approach enables faster growth, higher survival rates, more uniform harvests, and greater profitability than conventional mixed-sex culture.

Shahriar Kabir, Hatchery Expert; Imran Hossain, Senior Technical Service Officer (R&D); and Nazmul Islam, Technical Service Officer (R&D), facilitated the technical sessions. They drew on their practical and technical expertise to guide participants through advanced pond management practices. These included pond preparation, stocking strategies, feeding management, water quality monitoring, molting and mineral management, and disease prevention. Additionally, participants learned how to maintain optimal water quality parameters. They also explored effective aeration practices and science-based health management techniques. Together, these approaches help maximize production while minimizing stress and disease risks.

The sessions also highlighted practical management protocols. These included regular growth monitoring, partial harvesting strategies, and farm management practices that improve productivity and profitability. Throughout the programme, participants actively engaged in discussions, shared field experiences, and explored practical solutions to common challenges in Golda farming. Finally, the training concluded with interactive Q&A sessions, where attendees received technical guidance directly from FishTech experts.

Overall, by equipping farmers with practical knowledge on modern Golda farming technologies and disease management, the training reinforces FoodTechBangladesh’s commitment to strengthening farmer capacity. It also promotes sustainable, commercially viable aquaculture practices across Bangladesh.
