On July 9 2026, FoodTechBangladesh hosted an on-site training session titled ‘Online Farmer Training on Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), Water Quality & Fish Health Management.’ The session was arranged by Gemini Seafood PLC at the FoodTechBangladesh Centre of Excellence in Khulna.
The training brought together approximately 40 farmers reflecting strong interest from aquaculture practitioners across the country. The session focused on Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), a modern, resource-efficient technology that enables high-density fish production while maintaining optimal water quality. As highlighted during the session, RAS facilitates continuous water reuse through filtration and treatment systems, supporting higher productivity with reduced environmental impact.
To ensure practical relevance, Jaed Hossen, Manager (HR, Compliance & Admin) at Gemini Seafood PLC., introduced the core concepts and operational framework of RAS. Drawing from the training materials, he highlighted how RAS integrates components such as biofilters, aeration, and continuous water circulation to remove waste, regulate oxygen levels, and ensure system stability.
Following this, the session reflected on water quality and fish health management. Mr. Jaed explained critical parameters such as dissolved oxygen, pH, ammonia, and temperature, and how these directly influence fish growth, immunity, and survival. He also provided actionable solutions, including the use of probiotics, aeration systems, and water treatment techniques to maintain a balanced aquaculture environment.
Farmers from diverse regions of Khulna actively participated throughout the session. The training concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing participants to address their technical challenges directly and explore practical adoption strategies.
Overall, the session equipped farmers with actionable knowledge to improve water quality, prevent disease, and adopt RAS-based systems for enhanced productivity and sustainability.
Building on this momentum, FoodTechBangladesh plans to continue organizing similar collaborative training sessions, further expanding outreach and strengthening farmer capacity across the country.
